Technically speaking Stroget isn't one street, but the chain of pedestrian streets and small plazas making the longest shopping promenade of Europe. It's the major must visit of Copenhagen. The leasury strall along the street, picking into the shops or stopping for a cup of coffee in a causy coffee shop is one of Copenhagen's greatest experience.

Nyhavn means a New Harbour, is a 17th-century waterfront, canal and entertainment district, one of most distinct areas of the city. It's famous for brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants. The canal harbours many historical wooden ships, which are defenitely worth seeing. Don't miss the WW2 memorial - a huge memorial anchor.

Kongens Nytorv (New Kings square) is located at the end of the Stroget street. It's the largest square of Copenhagen. Important buildings facing the square include the Royal Danish Theater from 1874, the Charlottenborg Palace from 1671 (now the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts), the Thott Palace from 1683 (now the French Embassy), the Hotel D'Angleterre and the Magasin du Nord department store.

The Little Mermaid at the seashore is something you shouldn't miss. Bases on Andersen's story character, she appeared here in the beggining of the 20th century and since then had become the symbol of Copenhagen and Denmark. She's sitting on the stone not far from the castle, observing with a little sadness the wide panorama of the bay.

Detailed Program

Time Description
Meeting time: 30 minutes after the ship docks OR at the time specified by your manager.
00:00 - 00:10 Meet your guide and driver outside the main port gate.

We will start our day by a drive along the amazingly diverse Danish coastline. To this day, the area north of Copenhagen boasts wonderful golden landscapes and charmingly quaint villages along the shore. The castle we are visiting first on our itinerary has looked like this for centuries. The story of Kronborg Castle dates back to the 15th century, as it collected toll from all ships entering the Baltic Sea.  Even though no longer a royal residence or an army garrison, the fortress still plays an important role in the Danish history as the home of sleeping legend, Holger the Dane.

After stunning views of the city of Elsinore, we will take a short drive and arrive to yet another masterpiece of Danish monarchs. At the Frederiksborg Castle, we will revel in a guided tour of the castles formal garden on beautiful and lavish grounds.

We will thereafter take some time to enjoy the small town of Hillerod, a few steps from the castle grounds and relish in an opportunity for lunch and exploring on your own. Continuing through the countryside lanes, a relaxing trip back to the country´s capital is an ideal way to ease into the busy Copenhagen atmosphere and let the experience settle in your mind.

Once back in the city, you´ll become acquainted with the famous Danish design immediately. The historic setting of this simple and uncomplicated nation’s capital dates back to the 12th century and provides a beautiful background to modern day innovations in architectural design.

Apart from the national treasures of Parliament in Christiansborg Castle and beloved pedestrian street called the Stroget, we will pass cultural sites such as the Tivoli Gardens and inviting Nyhavn area during our sightseeing tour. From the old harbor filled with legends of Viking ships once sailing along these canals, we will also pay a visit to the true symbol of Copenhagen, the Little Mermaid. An elegant statue of the siren created by the celebrated Danish fabler H.C. Andersen himself is loved by both the young and old.

07:00 We will now conclude our tour with a picturesque drive back to the cruise harbor or your hotel and say a heartfelt goodbye to the city built by the happiest nation in the world.
