The highest rating goes to Elena Ulko for her time with me, my daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Ismail Mirza, April 30 through May 3 ,while in St. Petersburg.

She spoke impeccable English, was very knowledgeable of Russian history, and made our visit to St.Petersburg an exceptionally pleasant and memorable experience. She set up a comprehensive, interesting and informative itinerary for us, was always prompt, very helpful with ordering, etc. in restaurants, and was a delight to have around. She made herself completely available to us for anything that we wished to do. Whenever we needed a driver, Andre was punctual and helpful.

Having Elena with us was more like having a friend than a tour guide....

Tour start time: 30 minutes after the ship docks or will be specified by your manager.

Meet your professional English-speaking guide outside the main port gate, check in for the tour and get ready to listen and learn.
In the year 2000 the Curonian spit was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in Europe. It is a natural wonder with fishermen's settlements and resorts, golden dunes, Curonian Spitethnographic architecture monuments and the summerhouse of Thomas Mann.

The tour starts with a short crossing of the Curonian Lagoon by ferry. Soon you reach the Curonian Spit, a sandy stretch of land, 98 km long and varying in width from 400 m to just a few kilometres, between the waters of the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. It is a great holiday site, full of the sweet scent of pines, water and ozone. Formed some 6000 years ago as sand accumulated in shallow waters near the coast, it is an extremely romantic area today with its fishing villages developed as resorts.

You will visit Juodkrante, famous for the Hill of Witches where one can see wooden statues of legendary heroes in a dense pinewood and Nida, the resort of serene beauty. It is noted for its magnificent 50 - 60 metres high dunes, the Lithuanian Sahara, attracting visitors since the middle of the 19th century. The German writer Thomas Mann had a summer house built here, which now houses a museum and has remained a meeting place for writers and intellectuals ever since.

After lunch in Nida (optional, not included) the bus will take you back to Klaipeda port.

Since prehistoric times people have lived on this elongated sand dune peninsula which separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. Nearly 100 kilometres long and 0.4-4 kilometres wide, it has long been threatened by the natural forces of wind and waves. Its survival to the present day has been made possible only as a result of ceaseless human efforts to combat the erosion of the Spit. The tour begins with a visit to one of the oldest settlements on the Spit, the charming seaside resort of Juodkrante with its the dunesAmber Bay and many pleasing stone sculptures.
